Band Program

The primary goal of our band program is to provide a well-rounded musical education for every child. This education focuses on building a solid foundation of tone production, technique, musicality, sight reading, music theory, and ear training. The curriculum develops musicianship, stimulates creative thinking, and provides students with a means of self-expression.

Beginning in the 4th grade, students can begin to play a band instrument and be a part of the Stanwich Symphonic Band.  These instruments include flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion.

Beginning in the 6th grade, students will move into the Stanwich Wind Ensemble and may also participate in the jazz ensemble.  The jazz ensemble meets separately from the wind ensemble and studies and performs jazz, funk, rock, and pop repertoire from different time periods.

All ensembles will perform at least two times each school year.
