How
do I contact my child's teacher?
There
are no telephones in the classrooms. However,
teachers have opportunities during the school day
to return phone calls. If you need to speak
with your child's teacher, send a note to the teacher
in your child's backpack or call the office and
indicate when it will be convenient to receive a
call.
How
do I arrange for my child to ride the school bus?
Every
child who resides in the Town of Greenwich is eligible
to ride the bus. Each spring, a Transportation
Form is circulated to all parents who reside in
Greenwich. The form is given to the Town of
Greenwich so that they can determine bus routes
for the fall. If you plan for your child to
ride the bus, even occasionally, you should indicate
that on the form. In August, a mailing is sent by
the School to all parents which indicates the bus
routes. Visit Arrival and Dismissal procedures
for further information. For information about
busing for children who reside outside the Town
of Greenwich, please contact the School Office.
What
happens if my child arrives late to School?
Your
child should proceed directly to the School Office
and check in.
What
if my child forgets his/her lunch or other belongings?
We
always have appropriate food on hand; no student
will go hungry. As long as this is not a regular
occurrence, lunch may be delivered to the Office.
Please do not bring lunch to your child's classroom.
Likewise, please deliver any "forgotten"
items to the Office, not the classroom.
What
if my child becomes ill during the School day?
School
offices are equipped with thermometers and a couch
for students to rest on. Unless a child has
a temperature, we encourage him/her to lie down
for a few minutes, have a drink of water and return
to class. We will call home when a child is
obviously sick or has a temperature.
Will
children go outside for recess and gym if the weather
is cold?
It
is our policy to take children outdoors whenever
possible, even in cold weather. Always send
your child to school with warm outerwear.
How
do I get involved at Stanwich?
There
are many opportunities for involvement for parents
at Stanwich. At the beginning of every school
year, the Stanwich School Parent Association hosts
a welcome coffee to introduce the new Parent Board
and provide information about Parent Association committees.
There are sign-up sheets for those interested in joining
committees. In addition, as the school year
progresses, there are ample opportunities to participate
as a volunteer. The Stanwich Spirit weekly newsletter
issues regular calls for volunteers for all committees.
From assisting in the library to teaching art appreciation,
from supervising community service activities to fundraising,
from stuffing envelopes in the office to running a
book fair, there are many ways to get involved.
Stanwich parents are an integral part of the life
of the School. Speak to your grade-level representative,
stay tuned to this web site, read the Stanwich Spirit
and attend parent meetings. You'll find a way
to get involved that's right for you!
How
do I arrange play dates for my child?
At
the beginning of the school year, you will receive
a class list with telephone numbers and addresses.
You will meet fellow parents at the many School functions
early in the year. If you are a family new to
Stanwich, you will be assigned a "buddy"
family with a child in your child's grade. Your
buddy family will help you become acquainted with
the School and the other students in your child's
grade.
What
does the School expect me to contribute financially?
Please
see the "Development"
section of this web site.
How
can I become a member of the Parent Association Board
of Directors?
Start
volunteering for any of the various Parent Board committees
and find an area that you like. Become involved
and meet other parents. In January of each year,
an open call for nominations to the Parent Board is
held. Self-nominations are encouraged.
The Parent Board is open to all parents and fresh
faces are welcomed. Enthusiasm and a willingness
to serve are prized!
How
can I become a member of the Board of Trustees of
The Stanwich School?
If
you are interested in being considered for a position
on the Board of Trustees, please contact Headmistress
Pat Young directly.
