About Stanwich

Students in grades 4, 5 and 6 enjoy a challenging and dynamic physical education program. For these middle grade students, the program emphasizes skill development and the building of strength, endurance and stamina. In addition, the program introduces students to intramural competition and stresses teamwork, communication and sportsmanship.

Grade 4 and 5 students attend physical education classes three days a week for forty-five minutes a day. For Grade 6 students, physical education classes are taught three days a week for fifty minutes. Sports taught during the year are as follows:

Grade 4

Boys and girls soccer, football, field hockey, team handball, boys and girls basketball, swimming, fitness, softball or baseball, boys and girls lacrosse, track and field.

Grade 5

Boys and girls soccer, football, field hockey, team handball, boys and girls basketball, swimming, fitness, softball or baseball, boys and girls lacrosse, track and field.

Grade 6

Boys and girls soccer, co-ed squash, boys and girls basketball, football, baseball or softball, boys and girls lacrosse. Boys and girls are separated as appropriate. Intermediate House students are assessed in their physical, emotional and social development in a written report twice per year.
