The School:  Founded in 1998, The Stanwich School is a thriving, independent, co-educational day school located in the suburban community of Greenwich, Connecticut, approximately 35 miles from New York City.  The School inaugurated its charter year with 72 students in grades K-2; since then, a new grade has been added each year.  The School currently serves 457 students in grades Pre-K through 9.  The School will continue to add a grade each year through grade 12.

In just ten years, The Stanwich School has experienced dramatic enrollment growth, obtained full accreditation from the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools and established itself among the top academic schools in the region.

The Students:  Our 457 students are a community of learners currently in pre-kindergarten through grade 9 (adding a new grade each year).  Students reside in Greenwich and surrounding towns in Fairfield and Westchester Counties. Students are grouped in five houses: the Pre-K Cottage (Pre-K), the Primary House (grades K-3), the Intermediate House (grades 4-6), the Junior House (grades 7-9), and starting next year, the Senior House (grades 10-12).

The Faculty:  Our faculty are caring, experienced and enthusiastic professionals who are committed to educating the whole child -- mind, body and spirit.  Virtually all of our head teachers have earned masters' degrees or higher.  Each is assisted by intern teachers who are pursuing a master's degree in education.  The average student/faculty ratio is 7 to 1.

Academics:  The Stanwich School offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum that focuses on a blend of traditional and contemporary approaches to teaching.  Students consistently meet or exceed Independent School norms on standardized tests (ERB) in all grade levels.

The academic program features:

  • a "spiraling" curriculum that "teaches to mastery";
  • accelerated mathematics and language arts groupings;
  • innovative foreign language immersion beginning in kindergarten and the introduction of Latin in grade 7;
  • a creative fine and performing arts program that is fully integrated into the curriculum;
  • individualized schedules and academic advisors for all students in grade 7 through 9;
  • the use of computers and other technological resources as learning tools, rather than ends in themselves;
  • a full complement of field trips, clubs, after-school programs, and enrichment events that enhance the curriculum; and
  • a "Parents as Partners" values program for students and their families.

Athletics:  The physical education program emphasizes skills, fitness and teamwork.  Sports taught during the school year include co-ed cross country, co-ed ice hockey, football, baseball, softball, boys' lacrosse, girls' lacrosse, boys' soccer, girls' soccer, boys' basketball, girls' basketball, tennis, swimming, track and field, sailing, tennis and squash.  Interscholastic competition is introduced in grade 7.  In just eight years, the Physical Education Program has produced competitive teams across all major sports.

Values and Ethics:  Character education based on the Judeo-Christian tradition is an essential element of The Stanwich School experience.  Daily assemblies and weekly values and ethics classes for students emphasize the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule.  Families, too, are an integral part of the values program at Stanwich.  In addition to having values-focused parent workshops, parents participate in monthly values assignments and are required to sign a Code of Conduct.

Community Service:  All students engage in meaningful community service throughout the school year.  These activities are integrated into the life of the School, involve significant parent participation and serve to transmit to students their obligation as people to take care of one another and our world.

Tuition for the 2007-08 school year is:

Pre-K    $15,900
Kindergarten through Grade 3 $21,500
Grade 4 though Grade 6 $22,700
Grade 7 through Grade 9 $23,600

Financial Support:  The Stanwich School actively seeks students of diverse backgrounds and interests.  Financial scholarships are available to all qualified students and families.  We welcome all applications.

Stanwich students are taught to:

  Be the best they can be;

Help others be their best;

Make God's world a better place.
