KINDERGARTEN

Kindergarten began the year studying Georgia O'Keeffe and creating beautiful pencil and watercolored flowers.

Kindergartens then learned about the artist Piet Mondrian and using a paper collage technique, the students made their own versions of "Broadway Boogie Woogie"

Recently, the Kindergarten celebrated "book month" and studied the author and illustrator Eric Carle. The students illustrated their own stories in the style of Eric Carle.

Students created self-portraits of their futures. After learning basic skills about drawing people, students portrayed themselves busy at work 20 years from now.

GRADE 1

This fall the first graders studied texture and using collage they created these wonderful trees. The students then looked at the book Sky Tree and gave their own trees these brilliant backgrounds.

Grade One recently finished their "Chameleon Camouflages" inspired by the book Mixed up Chameleon and Stanwich School's Book Month.

Grade One studied the work of Pablo Picasso. They did observational studies of string instruments and using mixed media the students made these amazing works.

Grade One learned about Frida Kahlo and pattern and portraiture. The students created fun animal self-portraits using various painting and drawing techniques.

GRADE 2

Grade Two started the year making multimedia underwater scenes using drawing, painting and printing techniques.

Grade Two then studied the life and work of Henri Matisse and drawing with their scissors, the students made these beautiful collages.

Second Grade learned about Pablo Picasso and the cubist movement. The students created their own cubist self portraits and applied techniques of pattern and color.

GRADE 3

Third Grade created absract paintings in the style of Wassily Kandinsky.

Grade Three recently looked at positive and negative space and made these terrific bike compositions.

While Third Graders were writing biographies of famous people in library, the students created a 3D bust of their featured person in art class.

The third grade learned about proportion, features and additive sculpture and using everything from paper mache to paint and textiles, the students constructed these wonderfully unique individuals.
