The Senior House at Stanwich is an innovative extension of the Primary, Intermediate, and Junior House programs, building upon the character development and the academic preparation that have defined the Stanwich School. The focus on mind, body, spirit guides both our curriculum and our daily lives, and promotes balance in students’ lives. We maintain high academic standards and expectations to prepare our graduates for college and a purposeful life beyond.
The high school years constitute a transformational experience. They mark the threshold of independence and adulthood, a time when young people begin to form their own personal identity and think about their future. In both the curricular and co-curricular (arts, athletics, community service, clubs) programs, students are challenged and supported in their leadership and ethical development through collaborative endeavors and individual pursuits to make appropriate decisions and to take responsibility for those decisions.
The Senior House at Stanwich is a vibrant institution with the flexibility to react to emerging educational needs and thus uniquely positioned to prepare today’s students for the changing world that lies ahead. Moving beyond the memorization of facts, our curriculum is designed to inspire students to think deeply and critically, working individually and collaboratively, to make connections between school and personal experiences as well as across disciplines, cultures and time. Senior House students are experienced at bringing coherence to complex situations and prepared to shape the world they inherit. These young adults think independently and creatively, communicate effectively, and execute positive change. They acquire public speaking and negotiating skills, as well as a command of technology. Their liberal arts educational foundation opens their minds to possibilities and opportunities that will help them realize their dreams.
We continue to challenge our students — as they continue to challenge and support each other — to be their best, to help others be their best, and to make God’s world a better place. Most importantly, we do all of the above with a fundamental commitment to be mindful of the “Stanwich Seven” — commitment, compassion, wisdom, courage, honesty, forgiveness and joy — the core virtues that support our school’s mission. Our Senior House is a joyful, exciting place in which adolescents grow and mature into confident, competent, compassionate, and, inspired young adults.
We welcome you to visit our community and experience the Heart of Stanwich personally.
