About Stanwich

Junior House Welcome

The Junior House is a safe, nurturing environment designed to help each student be their best, help others be their best, and make God's world a better place. Character education, a foundation of our school, is taught through values and ethics classes, meaningful community service projects, and a wide variety of enrichment activities that nurture a sense of responsibility towards others.

The Junior House provides a rigorous academic program that strives to meet each student's abilities and needs through a small student-teacher ratio and a dedicated and enthusiastic faculty with a wide range of expertise. In addition to a solid core academic program, the JH provides excellent fine and performing art instruction, and a solid athletic program including interscholastic athletic competition beginning in Grade 7.

Students and faculty form tight bonds at the Junior House which not only strengthens the sense of community, but these strong relationships also strengthen the depth and quality of the academic experience for each student.

Upon entering the JH, students are assigned a faculty advisor and an advisory group. The group meets each morning, and then twice weekly, to discuss both academic and social topics in small groups or one-on-one. Each month, students celebrate a virtue, such as compassion, which is incorporated into every aspect of life at the JH including the curriculum, assemblies, and advisory discussions.

The Junior House is the beginning of a long journey towards responsibility and independence. It is my deepest hope that our students leave the JH with a strong sense of self and character.

Sincerely,
Dana Montañez
