Employment - Intern Program

The Stanwich School Intern Program is designed for liberal arts graduates who would like to enter the field of education. This two-year program involves full-time classroom teaching alongside highly qualified mentor teachers, with placements in a different grade level each year. By attending classes after school hours and during the summer, interns earn a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) at nearby Manhattanville College with the opportunity to acquire New York and/or Connecticut certification.

Interns are immediately immersed in The School's environment and gradually take on increasing levels of responsibility as they progress through the program. To enhance professional development, Stanwich provides interns with weekly seminars on topics ranging from classroom management and individualizing the curriculum, to report writing and parent conferences. Interns also receive an annual salary, assistance with graduate coursework fees, and medical and dental benefits. By the conclusion of the program, interns are fully qualified to be head teachers. Those who have completed the program have continued their careers in successful teaching positions in independent and public schools throughout the country. The Stanwich School Intern Program continues to be a leader in the field of teacher preparation.
