Campus Building Plan
It is said, "The best way to predict the future is to make the future happen," and we are hard at work doing just that. On August 22, 2007, the Stanwich School filed applications with the Town of Greenwich to build a complete Kindergarten through 12th Grade campus at 257 Stanwich Road. This represents the culmination of two years of design, engineering and development work. The master plan includes the construction of an Upper School Campus for grades 7-12; construction of a new Intermediate House for grades 4-6; substantial renovation of the Primary House, to include the space currently occupied by the Greenwich Reform Synagogue; and the construction of a new synagogue for GRS.
Headmistress Pat Young says, "Now we are truly moving forward with plans to expand our facility and develop an Upper School Campus for grades 7-12. It has always been our intention to create a permanent home for the school and it is exciting to envision being able to offer our distinctive program of rigorous academics, character culture and exceptional faculty to children at every grade level, all at one location."
The proposed campus has been designed by a leading Connecticut architecture firm in a classic style that will be a credit to the neighborhood. We have sought to eliminate excessiveness and wastefulness in the new school facilities and to share driveways, parking and other facilities among the school, GRS and St. Agnes Church.
Instead of separate auditoriums, gyms, cafeterias and playing fields for Stanwich's elementary, middle school and high school students, we designed our proposed new facilities so that all of our students will share one auditorium, one cafeteria and two playing fields.
Our buildings are designed to be environmentally responsible and our facilities will receive LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The Campus is also designed so that the campus buildings are clustered along the western portion of the property to maximize open space. The buildings will be located over 300 feet from Stanwich Road and even further from any residential neighbor.
The road frontage along 257 Stanwich Road will be rehabilitated as part of our project and extensively landscaped with evergreens and deciduous trees, including many flowering trees. Given the landscaping and substantial building set backs from adjacent roadways, our completed campus will be a permanent asset to the neighborhood.
